ERCOT President: Rolling Outages Prevented Months Of Massive Blackouts

The president of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas says the agency went to rolling outages just in time to prevent catastrophic blackouts. Bill Magness, president of ERCOT, says the winter storm knocked power generation offline at the same time it greatly increased customer demand. Magness says grid operators made the call early Monday morning to start the rolling outages in order to prevent blackouts that would last for months. ERCOT is a nonprofit that operates the power grid for most of the state.
