TEA: Students Learning Remotely Won't Have To Take STAAR Tests

Texas Education Agency Commissioner Mike Morath says Texas students in remote learning won't be required to take the STAAR test. Morath says the state is proceeding with the standardized State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness test because schools use it to gauge students' learning. Students who take the test will have to do so in person, but Morath says the state doesn't have the "logistical ability to do the STAAR remotely." Parents concerned about sending their remote-learning kids to school are allowed to opt out.
