State health officials say the pandemic is at its worst right now, with Texas reporting more than 300 new deaths in an average day. The Texas Department of State Health Services is reporting nearly 1.9 million cases of the virus, with at least one case in every one of the state's 254 counties, since the pandemic started. There have also been more than a quarter-million probable cases in 223 counties. Local officials and health experts are concerned that the post-holiday surge is partly because of bars that reopened as restaurants.
