Texas Supreme Court: Wrongfully Convicted Man Can Get Compensation

A Texas man can get state compensation after wrongfully being put on death row for almost a decade. The state Supreme Court made the ruling in favor of Alfred Brown today saying the Texas Comptroller's Office exceeded its authority when it denied Brown's request last year. They also criticized the Comptroller's Office for doing an independent review to determine whether Brown deserved cash. Justices wrote, Brown's met all of the requirements for compensation. He was convicted of capital murder for the 2004 death of a Houston police officer during a robbery. It was tossed in 2014 after phone records showed Brown wasn't at the scene of the shooting.
