Sheriff Establishes Substation In Neighborhood Rocked By Violent Crime

The Bexar County Sheriff's Department has set-up a substation in a gas station parking lot on the northeast side following a series of crimes in a neighborhood off Walzem Road near Gibbs Sprawl. Those crimes included two murders during drug-deal robberies.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar says its hoped the increased presence of deputies will reduce crime in the area and help residents feel safe.

"We are going to be conducting mobile patrols out of this area. Basically we've created this parking lot into a sheriff's substation," said Salazar. "Area residents will see more activity in the area. More marked units doing directed patrols and some covert patrols as well, and you may also see outside agencies helping us out with regard to this effort."

Salazar said outside agencies, including DPS and police from Kirby and Converse could be assisting in the effort.

"I can tell residents that we would hope that you'll be reassured that there's more of us out here in an effort to quash what seems to be an uptick in violent crime that's occurring out here," said Salazar.
