The Texas Legislature convenes in January, and state lawmakers are already filing bills. The 87th legislative session unofficially opened Monday, and by the end of the day, senators and representatives had filed nearly 550 bills. Some bills addressed familiar issues, such as Democrats' efforts to hike the minimum wage, the GOP's attempts to limit abortion, and both sides' interest in guns, both for and against. There were also bills related to the pandemic and to police brutality. The opening gavel of the Legislature is on January 12th.
