3 years ago today, 26 lives were lost during a shooting at the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs.
The church marked the anniversary by ringing the church bell 26 times at 11:25 a.m. this morning.
The church posted on Facebook, "There will be no speakers or service, just a somber, prayerful time of remembrance that #evildidnotwin."
Church leaders said they hope the bell ringing remains a tradition on this year "for generations to come."
"3 years ago, 26 innocent lives were taken in a tragic shooting at the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs. Today, we honor their memory & pray for the continued healing of the Sutherland Springs community," said Governor Greg Abbott. "Our hearts will forever remain with the victims & their families."
