Massive Nationwide Opioid Fraud Crackdown Nets Texas Defendants

The U.S. Justice Department is announcing a nationwide bust of hundreds of people accused of healthcare fraud and opioid abuse. 345 suspects are charged, including more than 100 doctors, nurses and other medical professionals. The defendants reportedly made more than six-billion-dollars in false claims to federal healthcare programs and private insurers. Sixteen defendants were charged for 50-million-dollars' worth of schemes in the Southern District, which includes Houston and Galveston.
