Appeals Court Blocks Order Requiring Straight-Ticket Voting In Texas

A federal appeals court is temporarily blocking a recent court order requiring Texas to allow straight-ticket voting in the November 3rd election. A federal judge in Laredo ruled last Friday that a new state law against straight-ticket voting would endanger voters by causing longer and slower lines at polling places during the pandemic. Attorney General Ken Paxton asked the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for an emergency stay of the ruling while he prepared an appeal. The appeals court issued an administrative stay on Monday, blocking the ruling to give judges time to consider Paxton's request for the emergency stay.
