VIA Touts Sales Tax As Means To Fund Transit Expansion

VIA Metropolitan Transit officials are encouraging San Antonio voters to pass a 1/8-cent sales tax in the November election.

VIA president and CEO Jeffrey Arndt says the tax would fund increased bus service in the central service area, expanded transit options further out, and the beginning of an Advanced Rapid Transit system.

If voters approve the tax, it would start funding transit in 2026. Arndt and other VIA officials say it would help make up for decades of chronic underfunding of transit.
