San Antonio City Council Approves Renaming Columbus Park

San Antonio's City Council has voted unanimously to rename Columbus Park.

In addition, the council supported of the permanent removal of the Christopher Columbus statue from the park, that will now be renamed Piazza Italia Park.

“While I am not typically a supporter of removing monuments and statues, the Christopher Columbus Italian Society has requested that their property be returned and are supporting the renaming of the park. Today, I voted to support their wishes to have their property returned and to protect the monument from further vandalism," said City Councilor Clayton Perry. "Thank you to Christopher Columbus Italian Society for their work to strengthen the community in this time. We admire their leadership in honoring the contributions of Italian Americans here in San Antonio.”
