U.S. Border Patrol agents thwarted two human smuggling efforts on I-35 north of Laredo in recent days.
In one incident, agents discovered 30 Mexican and Guatemalan nationals, including one juvenile, hiding in a trailer. They were determined to be in the country illegally. The individuals, along with the driver and passenger, both U.S. citizens, were taken into custody.
In the second case, agents discovered 12 people from Mexico who were in the country illegally. The individuals, along with the U.S. citizen driver and passenger, were taken into custody.
Despite the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Border Patrol says they're seeing an increase in the number of smugglers trying to get people into the country.
