Abbott Defends Pandemic Leadership In Speech At Virtual GOP Convention

Governor Greg Abbott is pushing back against critics of his leadership during the coronavirus pandemic. The governor gave the opening speech at the online Republican State Convention on Thursday. Abbott has been catching flak from Republicans saying he's done too much, and from Democrats saying he hasn't done enough. He told the GOP's grassroots that he's not happy about the mask mandate, or about his recent slowdown in efforts to reopen the state's economy, but the resurging pandemic has to be dealt with. The convention went virtual after Houston officials refused to allow it to take place in the city.
