Gonzales Declares Victory In District 23 Runoff

The GOP runoff for Texas Congressional District 23 was down to a 7 votes difference as final votes were being counted overnight. Of the more than 24,000 votes that had been cast, just 7 votes separated the two candidates.

Although Raul Reyes had been leading Tony Gonzales most of the night, Gonzalez pulled ahead as final votes were being counted. Gonzales declared victory this morning after the numbers reported by Texas Elections officials showed him leading with 50.01% percent of the vote.

President Trump and outgoing incumbent Will Hurd both endorsed Gonzales, while Senator Ted Cruz endorsed Reyes. The winner will face Democrat candidate Gina Ortiz Jones in November.
