Nine Texas Sheriffs Won't Enforce State Mask Mandate

Sheriffs in nine Texas counties say they don't intend to enforce Gov. Greg Abbott's statewide mask mandate. Officials in Denton, Gillespie, Gregg, Houston, Kerr, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Panola, and Upshur Counties will refuse to issue citations to people not wearing masks. The order provides a $250 fine for repeat offenders, but no jail time. Denton County Sheriff Tracy Murphree says Abbott's mandate is an "executive order, not a law." Other sheriffs say they lack the resources to enforce the mandate.
