Mayor Voices Concerns As Hospitalizations Reach 699

Metro Health is reporting 455 additional coronavirus cases in Bexar County as the number climbs to 8,857 cases since the pandemic began.

One new death has also been reported.

Mayor Ron Nirenberg says the city also saw a big increase in hospitalizations on Friday, with 71 more patients, bringing the number hospitalized to 699. "That is an alarming jump from just two weeks ago," said Nirenberg. "The hospital system continues to be under significant stress."

221 of the patients are in intensive care, with 117 on ventilators. This is the first time the city has seen more than 100 patients on ventilators.

The city has updated its executive orders calling for prohibiting gatherings to no more than 10 people in a city park or plaza. The city will also not reopen pools and splashpads next Friday, as had previously been planned.
