Nirenberg Won't Support Sales Tax Allocation For VIA

Mayor Ron Nirenberg says he doesn't support the allocation of a local sales tax to support transportation funding in San Antonio. Nirenberg issued a memo stating that officials with VIA Metropolitan Transit may ask voters to approve the reallocation of the one-eighth cent sales tax, which adds up to about $40 million a year. In the memo, the mayor said VIA is projecting a deficit of more than $218 million. Nirenberg has advocated spending on the city transit system, but says he won't support the ballot measure.
