SCOTUS Sends Texas Death Row Case Back To State Appeals Court

The U.S. Supreme Court is sending a death penalty case back to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals for another look. The high court ruled on Monday that the defense lawyer for 32-year-old Terence Andrus was deficient, neglecting basic tasks and failing to uncover evidence that may have helped Andrus escape the death penalty. The Supreme Court returned the case to the Texas appeals court to determine whether Andrus is entitled to a new sentencing trial before a new jury. Andrus was convicted of murdering two people in Fort Bend County in 2008.
