The head of the San Antonio Police Officers Association says he's skeptical about calls to defund the police. Union President Mike Helle says shifting SAPD funds to other priorities will further strain the force's already limited resources. He rhetorically asks whether the public really wants to see fewer police officers and patrol cars on the streets. Helle says there are a number of community relations programs already in place, such as cultural sensitivity training and recreational activities. He agrees that George Floyd's death in Minneapolis police custody shows there's always room for improvement.
