Bexar County GOP Chair Resists Calls To Resign

The chairperson of the Bexar County GOP says she won't resign despite calls from prominent Republicans for her to step down.

Cynthia Brehm on Monday shared a Facebook post that claimed George Floyd's death at the hands of the Minneapolis police was "staged" to damage President Donald Trump's standing with black voters.

Brehm reportedly received a huge backlash, including calls from Gov. Greg Abbott, Senator John Cornyn, and other Texas Republican leaders for her to resign. Brehm has taken down the Facebook post and is up for reelection in the July 14th runoff.

“Cynthia Brehm’s statement regarding the tragic injustice of the death of George Floyd has no place in the Republican Party of Texas. We can not abide by her caustic remarks. They are out of alignment with our core beliefs and our platform. I have personally reached out to Cynthia Brehm and called on her to resign her post as Chair of the Republican Party of Bexar County immediately," said Republican Party of Texas Chairman James Dickey.
