The Dallas City Council is saying no to a resolution that could have led to a property tax increase of up to 8%. The city is suffering budget shortfalls as a result of business closures and layoffs caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The city manager asked the mayor and the city council to pass a resolution to allow the city to ask the what the results of an eight-percent property tax hike would be. Council members on Wednesday rejected the proposal by a lopsided 11-to-3 vote.
