More Than 2,300 Felonies Await Trial In Idled Bexar County Courts

More than 2,300 felony cases are awaiting trial in Bexar County's ten criminal district courts as a result of the pandemic. Courtroom activity at the county courthouse and the Cadena-Reeves Justice Center was all-but shut down in mid-March in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus. In addition to felony cases, there's also a backlog of civil and county court cases. The moratorium on jury service is set to be lifted on June 30th. Local Administrative Judge Ron Rangel says there probably won't be any jury trials until late summer.
