Police Shoot Man Who Threatened Them With A Rifle

A man was shot several times by San Antonio police overnight after he threatened them with a rifle.

Police say a friend reported the man was depressed and suicidal and had threatened his family and himself.

When police arrived at a house in the 100 block of Hillsdale on the west side, they discovered him in a back alleyway with the rifle.

“He stood up with the rifle. Both officers fired. He was struck three times,” said San Antonio Police Chief William McManus. “He stood up as the police approached him. They were at the mouth of the alley. He was maybe fifteen yards in. As he stood up, he was holding the rifle. The officers felt threatened, and at some point thereafter they shot – both officers.”

No officers were injured. The man was rushed to a hospital in serious condition.
