San Marcos police are releasing more information about a man who ambushed three police officers last month, killing one and wounding two. The officers were responding to a domestic disturbance call when Jose De La Cruz ambushed and shot all three. Police confirmed on Tuesday that De La Cruz was a Mexican illegal immigrant who had been in the United States for more than 20 years and used several aliases. Officers Franco Stewart and Justin Mueller are home from the hospital, but Officer Justin Putnam was killed. After the ambush, De La Cruz also shot and killed himself.
