Elderly Texas Inmates Turn To SCOTUS For Protection From Virus

Inmates in a Texas prison for the elderly are turning to the U.S. Supreme Court for help in being protected from the coronavirus. Two prisoners of the Wallace Pack Unit in Navasota sued the state in March after a 62-year-old inmate died of the virus. The suit claims the Texas Department of Criminal Justice has failed to protect its most vulnerable inmates from the pandemic. Last month, a judge ruled in favor of the inmates and ordered the state to provide them with masks and other supplies. The state successfully appealed, so the inmates now hope the high court will hear their case.
