A San Antonio team is nearing completion of a project to create a basic portable ventilator for emergency use. University Health Systems and Skunkworks San Antonio are testing the adaptable emergency ventilator before it's ready to be manufactured and put to use. The ventilator reportedly performed well while being tested on a simulator mannequin. The Food and Drug Administration still has to approve the device before it can be used. That usually takes years, but emergency approval may take no more than a month.
