The Bexar County Sheriff’s Department says 21 additional Bexar County Jail inmates have tested positive for COVID-19.
After several inmates tested positive for COVID-19 from a single unit, the unit was subsequently placed on lockdown, and the entire unit was tested for COVID-19.
The 21 inmates who tested positive for COVID-19 in this unit are asymptomatic, however, they will remain in the unit, while 6 inmates who are pending test results have been relocated from the unit and placed under medical observation.
Additionally, BCSO was notified that 4 UHS employees assigned to the Bexar County Jail have tested positive for COVID-19.
BCSO has had 12 deputies and one civilian who initially tested positive for COVID-19 make a full recovery and are returning to duty after having been medically cleared. Currently, we have 19 deputies who are positive with COVID-19.
11 inmates who initially tested positive for COVID-19 have been relocated from the Infirmary to the Recovery Unit. These inmates will remain in this unit under medical observation for an extra 7 days until they are symptom free.
To date, a total of 57 inmates have tested positive for COVID-19, in addition to a total of 31 deputies, one video visitation civilian employee, one dispatcher, one laundry tech, one Bexar County facilities maintenance employee, 5 UHS employees and one Bexar County fleet maintenance employee have tested positive for COVID-19.
