2 More Bexar County Jail Inmates Test Positive For COVID-19

Two more Bexar County jail inmates have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of inmates who have tested positive for COVID-19 at the jail to 10. 

Both inmates had already been in the infirmary for medical observation prior to testing positive.

Sheriff’s Administration is completing contact tracing for all positive COVID-19 cases within the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.Sanitation and cleaning efforts, continuous inmate health screening, and mandatory PPE use in the jail are ongoing. 

Additionally, a Bexar County Fleet Maintenance Mechanic has tested positive for COVID-19. The mechanic is not employed by BCSO, but did perform service on BCSO vehicles. Although chances of transmission to deputies is minimal, all vehicles the mechanic performed maintenance on have been fully sanitized. No deputies were placed on medical leave as a result of this positive result. 

To date, a total of 10 inmates have tested positive for COVID-19, in addition to 20 detention deputies, one video visitation civilian employee, a BCSO dispatcher, a Bexar County Facilities Maintenance employee, and a University Health Systems Nurse.
