Delay In 2020 Census May Lead To Summer 2021 Redistricting Session

A delay in the 2020 census count may mean a delay in the redistricting of congressional and state legislative districts in Texas. The Census Bureau is asking Congress for a four-month delay in completing the count because of the coronavirus pandemic. The deadline for delivering redistricting data to the states would also be pushed back at least four months, to July 31st, 2021. That's after next year's session of the Texas Legislature ends, so a special redistricting session would have to be convened in the summertime.
