Abortion Leaders Call On Supreme Court To Issue Ruling

Abortion providers across Texas are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to weigh in on the ongoing battle within the state. Yesterday, president and CEO of the Center for Reproductive Rights, Nancy Northup said Texas is "blatantly abusing its emergency power to obliterate Roe v. Wade." The 5th U.S. Circuit of Appeals ruled on Friday saying all elective abortions are banned in Texas with the exception of those who would reach the 20-week gestation mark by April 22nd. On March 22nd, Gov Abbott said in an emergency executive order that all non-essential medical procedures, including abortions, would be postponed in order to free up hospital beds during the COVID-19 pandemic.
