The Texas Department of State Health Services says the state's death toll from coronavirus has nearly quadrupled over the last week. As of Thursday, the number of fatal cases across Texas had reached 70, up from 18 a week ago. State health officials say the state's numbers are following national trends. Stay-at-home orders have been issued in most Texas counties with large populations. Gov. Greg Abbott has issued a statewide order as well. The health agency says there are now nearly 47-hundred cases in 143 Texas counties.
