Governor Greg Abbott is calling on President Donald Trump to issue a major disaster declaration for Texas because of the coronavirus outbreak. Abbott sent a letter to the president on Monday asking for additional federal assistance. The governor noted that the state has already received nearly 37-million-dollars from the CDC as part of an emergency coronavirus bill passed by Congress. Much of that money will go to 43 local health departments for response to the virus. A major disaster declaration would mean access to FEMA funds.
