Six cases of the coronavirus in the San Antonio area have officially been confirmed as community spread. According to the city of San Antonio's Metro Health office, they have confirmed 29 cases of COVID-19. Six of those were community spread, which means they can not trace the virus to travel or close contact with an infected individual. Eleven cases remain under investigation.
Metro Health released the following statement:
"The City of San Antonio Metropolitan Health District has updated its COVID-19 case count. There are now 29 cases of COVID-19 in San Antonio. Of the 29 cases, six have been determined to be transmitted via community spread. Community spread indicates that the diagnosis cannot be traced to travel or close contact with an infected individual. Eleven cases are being investigated.
“We have been making preparations and implementing prevention efforts over the last two months as the global COVID-19 pandemic continued to grow,” said Mayor Ron Nirenberg. “We are now are entering the most difficult phase in the rapidly-changing battle against this virus and we must stay the course. San Antonio comes together during a crisis and we will get through this as a community.”
Today, the City Council voted to extend the Mayor’s Fourth Public Health Emergency Declaration through April 18, 2020."
