Texas Execution Put On Hold Because Of Coronavirus Outbreak

US-JUSTICE-EXECUTION

The execution of a Texas inmate, scheduled for this week, is now on hold because of the coronavirus. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals on Monday delayed the execution of 44-year-old John Hummel, which had been set for Wednesday. Hummel's lawyer claimed the state's disaster declaration because of the virus interfered with last-minute investigations. Tarrant County officials opposed the requested delay. A Tarrant County jury sentenced Hummel to die in 2011 for the 2009 murders of his wife, daughter, and father-in-law.
