Houston-area teachers unions are pushing for paid leave due to concerns about coronavirus. Shonda Below with Northeast Houston American Federation of Teachers says coronavirus is about to become a pandemic and wants districts to promise teachers will be paid if schools have to be closed. Candis Houston with Aldine American Federation of Teachers says a backup plan for leave is needed in case the virus starts causing closures. AFT also pushed for more school and bus cleanings. Around a dozen cases of coronavirus have been reported in the Greater Houston area mostly linked to a cruise ship.
