A new area code is coming to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, probably next year. The Public Utility Commission of Texas has approved the assignment of area code 945 to accommodate the area's ongoing rapid population growth. PUC officials say the area codes 214, 469 and 972 are expected to run out of phone numbers in the first three months of 2021. At that time, area code 945 will take effect, and will meet DFW's phone-number requirements for the next 13-years.
