Twitter founder Jack Dorsey will not be attending an event at this month's South by Southwest Conference in Austin.

Twitter had already banned all “non-critical” business travel due to the continued spread of the coronavirus.

Dorsey had been planning to make an appearance to give a keynote address at the event, but a twitter spokesperson said he will not be making the trip. A spokesperson said, “Twitter is implementing a mandatory global business travel restriction for our employees, effective immediately. This unfortunately includes SXSW”.

Nearly 10,000 people have now signed a Change.org petition calling for the event to be called off, although organizers say they are expecting to hold the event as scheduled.
