Portion of US Border Wall With Mexico Falls Over Due to High Winds

MEXICO-US-BORDER-WALL

A section of newly installed panels for President Donald Trump's U.S. border wall with Mexico blew over in the wind and fell into Mexico near the border town of Mexicali, KYMA reports.

The section that fell over around midday Wednesday is part of an ongoing project designed to improve already existing sections of the wall. The section, about 130 feet long, fell over and landed on a row of trees in Mexico. Agent Carlos Pitones of the Customs and Border Protection agency told CNN the newly installed panels had been set in concrete that had not yet cured and the panels were unable to withstand the gusty wind conditions.

"We are grateful there was no property damage or injuries," said Pitones.

The National Weather Service says gusts of up to 37 mph were recorded in the area when the wall fell down.

No one was hurt in the collapse, KYMA reported.

The newly rebuilt section of the wall was being rebuilt to replace an existing border barrier and is part of Trump's signature policy to extend a physical barrier between the U.S. and Mexico along the 1,954-mile border, although, those plans have been repeatedly scaled back. The wall has faced several challenges both logistical and legal as private landowners along the border and environmental groups have sued the federal government, slowing the progress of construction.
