The Texas Democratic Party is suing the state over perceived violations of voting rights. The federal lawsuit filed Monday seeks to block a state rule that requires physical signatures on voter registration forms, as opposed to electronic signatures. Because of the rule, county registrars rejected more than 24-hundred voter forms a few days before the registration filing deadline for the 2018 midterms. The lawsuit claims the rule puts an unconstitutional burden on voting rights. The national Democratic Senatorial and Congressional Campaign Committees are joining the state party in the lawsuit.
