Funeral services were held today for a San Antonio Independent School District police detective who was killed while working off-duty as a security guard.
Detective Clifton J. “Cliff” Martinez was slain while working security at an IHOP on the city southeast side on December 21. Martinez tried to break up a fight in a parking lot and was run over by one of the suspect's vehicles. Two people have since been taken into custody.
SAISD posted a message on Twitter saying, "Today, with heavy hearts, we paid our final respects to Detective Cliff Martinez. We thank the many officers throughout the state whose presence provided support and unity. The ceremony was a touching tribute to an officer who will be greatly missed."
