A new study ranks Texas fifth nationwide for the rate of fatal traffic accidents on New Year's Eve and the day after. Law firm Cannon & Dunphy sifted through data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to come up with the fatal crash rate by state per 100-thousand licensed drivers. The five most dangerous states are Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Wyoming, and Texas. The study found an average of more than a thousand people die in fatal crashes nationwide on New Year's Eve or Day. In Texas, there are almost 190 deaths.
