Flight returns to Austin airport after mechanical problems

Airplane Traffic At JFK Airport in New York

A Delta Air Lines flight returned safely to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport after developing mechanical problems shortly after taking off on Saturday. Airline officials are still investigating, but say the plane experienced mechanical problems that appear to have been tied to striking something in mid-air. Officials are looking into whether the plane struck birds or even possibly a drone.

The flight had just taken off from Austin headed for Salt Lake City when it happened. The plane landed safely back in Austin after the incident and all passengers were taken off the plane. The passengers were then booked on another flight as an investigation began into what caused the problem.
