The man accused of spilling mercury in west Houston over the weekend is now being held on 150-thousand-dollars' bond. Christopher Melder had a court appearance on Wednesday morning. Police arrested the 19-year-old suspect on Sunday after he spilled small amounts of the liquid metal, which he had reportedly stolen from an abandoned business. The area was closed off and dozens of people had to be decontaminated. Melder is charged with unlawful disposal of hazardous material, burglary, and an undisclosed third crime.
