North Texas Hospitals Facing Blood Shortage

Hospitals in North Texas are facing a blood shortage. Hospitals need a thousand donations a day to make up the shortage according to Carter BloodCare. Hospitals in the area give from 600 to 800 blood transfusions per day to people, but the organization says more are needed to meet the demand. The area is also in need of platelet donations, which are used to stop bleeding and are vital for cancer patients undergoing treatment. Those who want to donate can go to carterbloodcare.org to make an appointment. Donors are required to weight at least 110 pounds and be at least 17 years old. Sixteen year olds can donate with parental consent.
