Thousands of felony suspects in Bexar County are reportedly being considered for possible release without paying bail. Pretrial services staff interviewed nearly 26-hundred defendants between June and early September for a possible personal recognizance bond. This type of bond usually is issued to defendants who can't afford to pay bail. The dozens of defendants who could be released without paying bond include people charged with arson, assaulting a public servant, and injury to a child. Some county employees say dangerous people are being put back onto the streets.
