TEA Fined $200K For Firing Whistleblower

Texas State Capitol

The Texas Education Agency is ordered to pay more than 200-thousand-dollars to a former employee who was fired for being a whistleblower. A Department of Education judge ruled last Friday that special education director Laurie Kash was fired a year ago because she complained about irregularities in the way the agency awarded a major contract. Kash had complained to local, state and federal agencies about the awarding of the multi-million-dollar, no-bid contract. Officials with the Texas Education Agency say they're going to appeal.
