Texas Court Overturns Leander Man's Sex Assault Conviction

Legal office of lawyers, justice and law concept : Wooden judge gavel or a wood hammer and a soundboard used by a judge person on a desk in a courtroom with a blurred brass scale of justice behind.

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals is overturning the child sexual assault conviction of a former Leander High School football star. Judges decided today to return Greg Kelley's case back to Williamson County where prosecutors are not planning to retry the case. Kelley was declared innocent by a lower court judge two years ago after his attorneys presented evidence showing he was innocent. He was originally convicted in 2014 but had long declared his innocence. His attorneys have argued Cedar Park police botched their initial investigation and his trial lawyer failed to reveal a potential conflict of interest.
