Texas resident claims $227 million Mega Million winnings

A Texas resident has a lot more money in their bank account today. The Leander resident came forward to claim their winnings a month after purchasing a $227 million winning Mega Million ticket at a store in Cedar Park. The ticket was purchased at the Lakeline Express Mart on September 24 and was a "Quick-Pick."

Texas Lottery officials say the winner opted for the cash value, which means they will receive $157,091,592. Officials say this is the largest prize ever paid out to a single Texas Lottery player.

The winner chose to remain anonymous.

For selling the winning ticket, the Lakeline Express Mart also won a $1 million retailer bonus.

The next Mega Millions drawing will be held Friday, Oct. 25. The jackpot prize for the drawing is set at an estimated annuitized $93 million.

Mega Millions is played by choosing five numbers from a field of 70 and one Mega Ball number from the second field of 25 numbers. To win the Mega Millions jackpot, players must match all six numbers drawn including the Mega Ball. Players matching fewer numbers may not win the jackpot, but still walk away winners.
