Texas Governor Praises President Over ISIS Leader Death

President Trump Makes Statement On The Raid That Killed ISIS Leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi

Texas Governor Greg Abbott is praising President Trump for taking out the top ISIS leader. The governor took to Twitter this morning shortly after Trump announced Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was killed in a special forces raid Saturday in northwest Syria. Abbott wrote that "the most wanted terrorist in the world was taken out over night." He thanked Trump, the intel community, and U.S. special forces for "making the world safer."

Texas Congressman Mac Thornberry says ISIS may have been in communication with al-Qaeda. The top Republican member of the House Armed Services Committee told CNN's State of the Union that the location of the raid that led to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi's death could be a clue. He said some people expressed surprise that al-Baghdadi was found near the town of Barisha in Syria because al-Qaeda was known was to be present in that area. He said it's possible the two terrorist groups worked together.
