Schools Damaged In Texas Storms

Tornado Leaves Leveled Buildings In Its Wake In North Dallas

Dallas ISD officials say at least three of the district's schools won't be reopening this school year because of damage from Sunday's storms. DISD Superintendent Michael Hinojosa announced Monday that Cary Middle School and Walnut Hill Elementary each appear to be a total loss. Thomas Jefferson High School was also heavily damaged, but an engineer has yet to determine whether the school is a total loss. If it can be salvaged, it may reopen next August. Students at the closed schools are being reassigned to other campuses.

Six schools in the Richardson ISD will be closed again today. The power hasn't been restored since Sunday night's heavy weather in North Texas. Classes at all Richardson ISD schools were canceled on Monday. The schools that are closed today are Audelia Creek Elementary, Dover Elementary, Richland Elementary, Stults Road Elementary, the Christa McAuliffe Learning Center, and Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet. The district says the employees at the six schools will work at other locations today.
